Myths and legends are everywhere. There are legends of people from long ago, myths of ancient Greeks. There are myths and legends of almost everything, including volcanoes. Myths of their creation, of why they erupt. Myths and legends of various gods controlling their own volcanoes. There is a story for almost every volcano. The amount of legends and myths concerning volcanoes is quite extensive, ranging from Hephaestus to Vulcan and everything in between. Its very interesting to know what people thought of volcanoes when the myths were made; myths about volcano are as captivating as other myths. Take Pele, one of the gods associated to volcanoes Ill be talking about, for example. Pele (also called Ka wahine `ai honua, the woman who†¦show more content†¦In the other variation, the expulsion/exile version, Pele is banished by her dad because of her temper. She had fought with her older sister, Na-maka-o-Kahai, and seduced her husband. Speaking of dads and sisters, Pele has m any other siblings, of which two are Ka-phoo-i-kahl-ola (spirit of explosions) and Ke-Ã… -ahi-kama-kaua (spirit of lava fountains). Pele isn’t just in Hawaii. Pele’s tears, hair. and seaweed (Limu o Pele in Hawaiian) are found around volcanoes worldwide. Pele’s hair is made of tiny particles of molten material that have been thrown into the air and spun by the wind forming a shape of a long strand of hair. This forms volcanic glass. Pele’s tears are usually found on an end of a strand of Pele’s hair. Pele’s tears are lava drops that are formed when particles of molten material in the air fuse into volcanic glass. Pele’s seaweed isn’t really seaweed. It’s volcanic glass lava that’s in nearly colorless (or brownish-green) sheets with subsequently shattered flakes that’s been erupted from a volcano and looks like seaweed. In extraterrestrial terms, there is a volcano on Jupiter’s moon Io named Pele. Vu lcan is the roman god of fire (which includes fire from volcanoes). He is known in Etruscan mythology as Sethians. His etymology (origin of name) is debated among many. One common theory is that his name originated from the Latin word fulmen, which means lightning.
